Blepharoplasty is cosmetic eyelid surgery designed to give the eyes a more youthful, less tired appearance, while preserving their natural expression.

It can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids as required.

Blepharoplasty is suitable for men and women of all races.

Age is not a decisive factor; the decision to undergo this operation is based on the patient's needs.

It is generally performed on people showing signs of ageing, to give them a lighter look. However, it can also be performed on younger subjects in the case of sagging eyelids or hereditary dark circles.

Cosmetic surgery procedures are only reimbursed by the RAMQ if they are medically justified. As blepharoplasty is purely cosmetic, it is generally not covered by RAMQ.

The only exception: blepharoplasty of the upper eyelid may be covered if it is carried out in the context of diminished or impaired vision. In this case, we recommend that you first have an eye examination to determine whether the problem is functional.

Eyelid surgery is painless because it is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation. Even after surgery, the majority of patients feel no pain, just a slight discomfort that quickly subsides after 24 hours.

Following our post-operative recommendations, such as applying ice, helps a great deal.

This is a light operation lasting approximately one hour, depending on the number of eyelids to be treated. It is performed on an outpatient basis, i.e. on the same day as the operation.

Generally speaking, you are asked to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment time. Then, you'll need to stay for at least 30 minutes after the procedure. The whole process can be completed in half a day.

It takes two weeks to fully recover from eyelid surgery.

However, you can resume your social and professional life after 7 days, while any swelling and bruising subsides.

Around a month after the operation, the eyelids begin to regain their suppleness and elasticity. The eyelids may continue to heal for up to a year and a half, but after 2-3 months, the results are already tangible.

The result is long-lasting and visible for 15 to 20 years.

It is very rare to need a repeat blepharoplasty.

A touch-up is always possible, but rare (only 2% to 3% of cases). The

decision as to whether a touch-up is necessary will be made with Dr. Khouri, and usually not before 9 to 12 months post-operatively.

Although complications are very rare in eyelid surgery, there is always a risk, whatever the surgical procedure.
